Douglas Seigars b. 1980, is a photographer based in Greater Boston whose work interprets urban, industrial and natural environments.  He studied at the College of Art and Design at Lesley University after completing a degree in Anthropology and first picked up the camera as a child during summer vacations to the seashore.  Motivated by a desire to explore, experience and possess the intangible, his process is equal portions journey and destination.  His subject matter frequently brings him to locations across Asia, Europe and North America, often in variable weather conditions.  Traversing the boundary between conceptual and documentary, the Japanese concept of yugen, deep mystery, is an essential element of his work.  His influences include contemporary photography, East Asian cinema and 19th Century landscape painting.  He enjoys sharing his passion for photography through teaching and is currently embarked on a multi-year project exploring global maritime shipping.
